Nunhead Cemetery
Nunhead Cemetery is one of the seven great Victorian cemeteries built to meet the demand for burial space of a rapidly growing city. It was privately-owned and when its owner went bankrupt the site was closed and allowed to become overgrown. Trees and ivy grew up around the gravestones. It was later saved by the local council and today is a popular walking spot and bird sanctuary.
