Singapore

In a relatively short space of time Singapore has grown from a small fishing village to a bustling colonial era port to the leading financial hub in Asia, and one of the world's richest nations. It's an orderly place - not the most exciting large city I've visited - but there can be a sense of future shock as you gaze at the city's mega projects, including Marine Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay. A pleasant surprise was the city's traditional shophouses, which I hadn't heard about before I arrived, but found very charming.
